John enlisted in the Navy in 1917 and was stationed on board the USS Jacob Jones DD-61 on 06 April 17.  He served as a Fireman 3rd class and then was promoted to Fireman 2nd Class.  At the time of enlistment John was a husband and a father, he had a 2 year old son named William, little did he know that William would follow in his footsteps.  He was survived by His father, mother, wife and son.  John created a line of Naval Service for his family stemming from his Son to his Granddaughters husband to 3 of his great-grandsons, and the line will continue.
